The moths recorded below are the results of the moth traps run in Burnham and Berrow. All records below are from the moth trap in Burnham-on-Sea unless otherwise stated. Dates refer to the night the trap was set.

Moths 2006

2007

September/October: It isn't that I am forgetting to update the moths, it is just that there really hasn't been anything vaguely interesting.

August:

12th August: National moth night produced a patch first in our Burnham trap in the form of Cydia amplana. Perhaps our mothing fortunes are on the change.

11th August:  A new moth to the area, Epermenia falciformis, was caught at Berrow.

July: Very much the trend of wet weather continues. One of the only decent nights this month allowed some visitors to trap on Brean Down on the 14th. They caught Devonshire Wainscot, which is the the first patch record and Thyme Pug.

June: The weather is still rubbish, when will summer come and the rain stop?

May: May has been very disappointing. I have hardly bothered to run the moth trap due to the weather. Even on the nights I have put it out it really hasn't been worth the effort.

April: The later half of April was unseasonably warm and the good numbers of moths were being caught. At Burnham some of the more interesting species were Semioscopis steinkellneriana (13th), Dark Sword Grass (2 on 27th), Poplar Kitten (29th).

17th March- 31st March: The undoubted highlight was capture of two Small Eggars at different sites on 27th March. Other species on the wing include Agonopterix curvipunctosa, Shoulder Stripe, Dotted Border and Waved Umber.

February-16th March: So far this year the four traps in Burnham and Berrow have caught: Oak Beauty, Pale Brindled Beauty, Hebrew Character, Common Quaker, Angle Shades, Clouded Drab and March Moth. Hopefully there will now be regular updates as spring starts to turn a bit warmer.
